About Charles Bailus
Charles Bailus has written mostly user manuals and letters to newspaper editors. Still, he doesn’t chase publication for money or fame. He writes because he has a vision.
On a trip from Sydney, BC, to Seattle, WA, he saw it clearly, like something waiting just out of reach. A young woman rode atop a giant snail. He tried to shake it loose. He couldn’t. The image stayed.
He believed the vision carried a warning. It pushed back against our stubborn drive toward a single-species planet.
In his youth, he flew planes. Then a dead-stick, downwind landing ended the idea of flying for a living. He never looked back.
He has also sailed the coastline from San Diego, CA, to San Francisco in a small racing sailboat, the Columbia Saber, powered by a four-horsepower Seagull outboard.
Reviews from our Book Worms
I stepped into An Eddy in the River of Time and immediately felt pulled along—like the story was tugging my sleeve and saying, “Come on, hurry.” The writing moves with an assured confidence, and the sci‑fi elements don’t just entertain; they invite questions. This is the kind of series I wish more publishers would champion—bright, imaginative, and made for readers who actually savor the page.

There’s a particular pleasure in discovering a series that doesn’t talk down to its audience. This one doesn’t. It respects curiosity. It builds wonder without relying on cheap tricks, and it keeps widening the world as the chapters go on. I found myself bookmarking passages, then coming back to read them again—because the ideas linger.

I bought this expecting a fun story to share with younger readers. I ended up reading portions myself, then watching the family react to the same moments—everyone was captivated in their own way. The narrative has warmth, momentum, and just enough mystery to spark conversation. It feels like a series designed for families, book clubs, and school libraries that want more than entertainment—they want meaning.

An Eddy in the River of Time has that rare “collector’s” quality: you can tell it will be revisited. The four-part structure promises growth, and it delivers. I love stories that feel like they were built with care, not churned out for speed. This series reads like an invitation into a bigger thought-world—one that holds both adventure and reflection.

I didn’t just enjoy this book—I wanted to know what happened next the moment I turned the page. The sci‑fi tone feels alive, not mechanical, and the story’s pacing keeps you awake without exhausting you. It’s the kind of reading experience that makes you look forward to silence, because you want time to finish the chapter properly.

I’ve read enough books to recognize when an author is trying to impress or sell. This feels different. The series carries conviction. It gives the reader a sense of purpose while still delivering thrills. I appreciated the imagination, but I loved the feeling that the story means something beyond the plot—something about how we live, how we choose, and what we become.

This is exactly the kind of book that gets recommended quietly and then demanded loudly. Students and adults alike respond to the story’s sense of wonder. It works on multiple levels: kids get the excitement, and older readers catch the deeper currents. As a librarian, I look for books that start conversations—and this series does.
